Balancing the demands of life and walking with God

I am really wanting to take the discussion we have been having on facebook this week and put it on this blog spot.  We are having a group of "older" ladies take on some of the questions of the younger at our Mother/daughter banquet coming up in 2 weeks.  This has definitely sparked some interest and so I think a topic worth continuing.  Please remember that no one of has all the answers; we are just sharing what the Lord has taught us. We are condemning no one; most of us have learned a thing or two by many failures of our own.

One question that really piqued my interest is the one about balancing life's demands with a consistent walk with the Lord.

My husband and I (on our Thursday IHOP date) were discussing this question about young Mom's balance of life's demands and still keeping a consistent walk with the Lord. He really brought out the "heart" of the matter - he said, "we've got it all backwards. Look at the way the question is asked most of the time - 'how do I balance husband, children, house and keep a consistent walk with the Lord?' when we should be 'seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness' and then all the other duties will fit in. He said when we put God first, putting that time in His Word first, then we will find a way to get other things done, or some of those unnecessary other things will fall by the wayside: (ie: television, movies, shopping, talking on the phone, entertainments, etc)." Normally the way we as Moms do things is whatever screams the loudest gets our attention first - and walking with God becomes a tag-on if we have any time left. God has promised to meet our needs, but He has put on a prerequisite:  seek Him first.  I can hear you all saying, but my kids get up too early, I am so tired in the mornings that I can't keep my eyes open, I just can't fit it all in a day's time...I have been there and I understand.  But can I challenge all of us to prove God true, and walk by faith and not by sight.

I am young, but have definitely found that taking time with GOd first makes the rest of my day go better. I am thankful that I was taught from a young child to have personal time with the Lord each day. At times, I struggle with the quality. I have a set time and then - - it's off to breakfast etc, etc, etc. As a mom, I have to get up before my kids, or else my devotion time is shot. At this stage of my life, I want to teach my children NOW, while they are young to take time with God each day so that when they are older, it is part of their lives.

As a mother of 5, I know that the loudest thing usually gets our attention first. I am not a morning person at all, but I truly enjoy my night time devotions. Sometimes you just have to do what works for you. Just as long as you *do* take the time to spend with the Lord and His Word.

Well, I'm not a mom and i don't have screaming children to grab my attention but i do have homework, SLEEP,friends, facebook, ect. to grab mine! whenever i don't take the time to read my Bible and pray it seems like my whole day just falls apart! i'm finding out that the most important part of the day really is to spend time with my God! I know whenever I am having a "bad day" all it takes is just a little time with my God. Usually the first thing I wanna do is to go to my friends about my problems, but what i really need to do is take the time to go to my God! 1 Peter 5:7 "Casting all your care on Him for he careth for you!" I just love this verse! It's so simple, yet at times so hard just to truly give all your burdens/problems to God!
